(The Post News)- During the weekend, President Trump made an announcement stating that the Federal Emergency Management Agency could be dismantled after touring devastated areas across the U.S. FEMA has been invited to assist residents affected by storms that hit the Marianas region.
The Marianas region is prone to typhoons and other natural disasters in that part of the Pacific. FEMA has been involved for decades in recovery efforts.
Over the weekend, Trump had suggested getting rid of FEMA. He has expressed his disappointment to the organization, stating they had it working well, but it is not good anymore. Furthermore, Trump has described FEMA as expensive and does not show up in dire situations.
Additionally, President Trump has signed an executive order establishing a FEMA review council. Kristi Noem, a recently sworn-in homeland security secretary and secretary of defense, and Pete Hegseth will be members. The council will assess and report on FEMA’s ability to address disasters effectively and impartially nationwide.
On Friday, Cam Hamilton, FEMA’s acting head, had to reassure staff, emphasizing the agency’s importance to national security. Therefore, Hamilton wrote to employees that FEMA is a critical agency that performs an essential mission in support of their national security.
