(The Post News)– Following a victory on Sunday against Parma, fellow Rossoneri players had to separate AC Milan coach Sergio Conceicao from team captain Davide Calabria. Several players stepped in to break up a heated argument between the Portuguese coach and his team’s defender and captain Calabria at the San Siro pitch.
Conceicao immediately went to Calabria to chastise him for something that had happened when the winger was benched for the final few minutes after being replaced by Serbian Luka Jovic, following the thrilling comeback in extra time with goals from Dutchman Tijjani Reijnders and Nigerian Samu Chukwueze.
While players tried to diffuse the situation, the two continued to argue even when they were being carried away. The coach’s choice to hand the captain’s armband to French goalkeeper Mike Maignan instead of him also affects their relationship. Both began the game on Sunday, and Maignan’s wearing the armband validated the coach’s choice. In order to strengthen his position after losing his starting spot, Calabria has also seen Milan buy Englishman Kyle Walker in the winter transfer window and Brazilian Emerson Royal this summer.
Following the game, both gave an explanation of what transpired. We cared about this game; it’s on-field nonsense, a misunderstanding. We have since worked things out, but the adrenaline was fairly high. You won’t see anything like this on the field for the first or last time. anything typical in football. It’s not a pleasant sight, so I apologise. “The team and having changed the game are the most important things,” Calabria said to “DAZN.”
“I get anxious every day. You can sometimes live this sport with passion while you’re high on adrenaline. It was just a match issue, and these are things that help me. Similar to what happens with kids, we have to speak out when we see unacceptable behaviour at a restaurant. I am straightforward like that. At a press conference, Conceicao said, “It’s not a problem, but maybe we said one word too many.”
