Formula 1 Bid deadline extended. Image: grandprix247.
(The Post News)– The Ministry of Sport, Arts and Culture, in partnership with the Bid Steering Committee (BSC), has announced an extension to the submission deadline for the Request for Expression of Interest (RFEOI) regarding South Africa’s bid to host a Formula 1 Grand Prix.
The new deadline is set for 18 March 2025, allowing more time for stakeholders to prepare and submit well-rounded proposals that meet the RFEOI guidelines. This decision aims to ensure a fair and transparent process as South Africa pushes to secure this globally coveted motorsport event.
Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie emphasised the significant impact this could have, stating, “Hosting a Formula 1 Grand Prix would not only enhance our economy and tourism but also position South Africa as a premier global sporting destination.”
Back in December 2024, McKenzie introduced a team of experts to form the Formula 1 Bid Steering Committee, tasked with handling all aspects of the bid process, from selecting a city and track to submitting the proposal to the Formula One Group and the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile).
For those interested in submitting proposals, the email address for submissions is bid@saf1bsc.com, with queries directed to info@saf1bsc.com.
