(The Post News)- Newcastle United stormed into the Carabao Cup final with a commanding 2-0 victory over Arsenal at St James’ Park, sealing a 4-0 aggregate win. Eddie Howe’s side were relentless from the start, setting the tone early as Alexander Isak found the net in the fifth minute only for VAR to rule him offside.
Arsenal had a golden chance to turn the tie around when Martin Ødegaard struck the post, but within seconds, Newcastle punished them. A rapid counter-attack ended with Jacob Murphy slotting home, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.
From there, Newcastle dictated the tempo. Arsenal struggled under the Magpies’ intense press, and it paid off again when Declan Rice lost possession deep in his own half. Fabian Schär pounced, setting up Anthony Gordon for a composed finish to double the lead.
Mikel Arteta’s side looked toothless, failing to muster a real response as Newcastle’s defence held firm. The Gunners’ lack of January reinforcements was glaring, with their attacking threats snuffed out with ease.
For Newcastle, this win was about more than just a final it was a statement. They’ll now head to Wembley for their second League Cup final in three years, determined to end a 70 year trophy drought. If they play like this again, silverware might just be within reach.
