(The Post News)– In an exciting move for South African school sports, SuperSport Schools and SABC Sport have partnered to launch a dedicated SuperSport Schools channel on the SABC Plus streaming platform. The channel, set to go live on 8 February 2025, will showcase a selection of school and youth sports, including football, netball, rugby, athletics, hockey, and basketball.
SuperSport Schools, known for its high-quality sports broadcasts, recorded over 60,000 matches in 2024 alone. By collaborating with SABC Sport, the platform aims to make school sports more accessible, allowing young athletes to gain recognition and open doors to greater sporting opportunities.
SuperSport CEO Rendani Ramovha highlighted the importance of grassroots sports, saying, “We want to encourage participation and reignite interest in school sports nationwide. This partnership will connect communities and inspire future generations.”
SABC Group CEO Nomsa Chabeli echoed this sentiment, emphasising the public broadcaster’s commitment to nurturing young talent. “This partnership aligns with our goal of offering opportunities for personal and professional growth through sports,” she said.
With over one million registered users on SuperSport Schools, this collaboration marks a significant step towards making school sports a key part of South Africa’s cultural landscape. Viewers can access the new channel via the SABC Plus website or app.
