(The Post News)- According to The Athletic publication, Vinicius Junior turned down Real Madrid’s initial extension offer due to Saudi Arabia’s lack of interest. The Brazilian, whose contract with Los Blancos expires in June 2027, may be persuaded to go to the Middle East by teams willing to offer him a high salary.
The Athletic publication stated, “Vinicius Junior has two years remaining on his current contract, which expires in June 2027. Real Madrid is negotiating a new long-term deal with him. In recent years, the 24-year-old wonder has become one of Madrid’s most crucial players as the ‘Los Blancos’ squad has won the Spanish Super Cup, La Liga, and the Champions League.”
With individual honors like a nomination for the Ballon d’Or and the Best FIFA Men’s Player award, the Spaniards are eager to secure Vinicius’ future in the capital. However, that might not be the case with the Brazilian, who allegedly turned down the team’s initial renewal offer.
According to The Athletic, the player and his representatives believe Real Madrid’s offer does not reflect his position as one of the world’s best players. It is understood that Vinicius is reluctant to accept the salary offered by the ‘Merengues’ because it is similar to that of Kylian Mbappe – around €15 million net per season.
The source reports that the Brazilian intends to be the club’s highest-paid player, above the earnings of other superstars in the team, such as Jude Bellingham and the same French striker.
Vinicius Junior reportedly declined Real Madrid’s first offer of an extension since Saudi Arabia showed little interest. Teams ready to pay him well might try to entice the Brazilian, whose contract with Los Blancos expires in June 2027, to move to the Middle East.
Even though Vinicius Junior has two years left on his current deal, which expires in June 2027, Real Madrid is reportedly negotiating a new long-term one with him. In recent years, the 24-year-old wonder has become one of Madrid’s most crucial players as the ‘Los Blancos’ squad has won the Spanish Super Cup, La Liga, and the Champions League.
Discussions about Vinicius Junior’s future have been triggered by the circumstances, with Saudi Arabia being one possible destination. Last summer, the player’s camp spoke with Saudi clubs and spoke with agents about a potential transfer, but it never happened.
The Brazilian’s representatives would not speak to Real Madrid when the club wanted to extend his contract. According to The Athletic, “Saudi officials reportedly spoke with the player’s entourage once more in December, telling them that they still wanted Vinicius to join the team for the upcoming campaign.”
Despite this, Vinicius has stated on numerous occasions that he wishes to remain with Real Madrid “forever”. “I’m still only 24,” he stated following the Champions League victory over Borussia Dortmund in October. “This team has given me everything since I came here, and I want to stay here forever and give back as much as I can.”
Scoring his 100th goal in the team’s 5-1 Champions League victory over RB Salzburg last month, Vinicius reaffirmed his intention to remain with the La Liga powerhouses. He told Real Madrid TV, “The importance for me to reach 100 goals and be a part of this club’s history means a lot to my entire family and me. I’m hoping to be able to stay here for a long time.”
