(The Post News)- Heavy rainfall in Limpopo has collapsed a bridge on the R529 road near Dzumeri village.
The collapse has resulted in road closures, with traffic being rerouted through alternative roads.
Motorists are expressing frustration over the detours, citing inconvenience and limited alternative routes.
One motorist lamented, “The road is closed, and it’s really inconveniencing us, as this is the only road to Tzaneen.”
Taxi operators are also feeling the impact of the bridge collapse, with disrupted routes affecting their business.
Residents are worried that continued heavy rainfall, as predicted by the South African Weather Service, may disrupt schooling.
A local resident urged authorities to repair the bridge, saying, “It’s a problem when it rains, as learners might not get transport.”
The resident added, “The area becomes inaccessible, and if possible, they must fix this bridge to avoid further disruptions.”
The collapse of the bridge has highlighted concerns over the state of infrastructure in the province.
Authorities are yet to comment on the bridge collapse and the planned repairs.
In the meantime, motorists are advised to use alternative routes and exercise caution when driving in the area.
The South African Weather Service has warned of continued heavy rainfall in the province, which may lead to further disruptions.
The Limpopo Department of Public Works, Roads, and Infrastructure is expected to provide an update on the situation soon.
