The city is experiencing damp weather, with many roadways turning slick and dangerous, according to EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi. He underlined that drivers should be cautious, keep safe, maintain following distances, and steer clear of low-lying bridges and potentially flooded roadways.
“Motorists are urged to drive carefully, particularly in areas where rain has caused flooding,” Mulaudzi stated. “We have specialist teams prepared to respond to water-related emergencies, and we are on high alert. We are actively monitoring all seven zones of Johannesburg to provide a rapid response in case of any issues.”
A level 5 warning for severe thunderstorms has also been issued by the South African Weather Service (SAWS) for the country’s central and eastern regions. From Sunday, February 16, through Thursday, February 20, 2025, these storms are predicted to bring with them a lot of rain and possibly flash floods.
Communities in these areas have also been advised by SAWS to exercise additional caution since persistent rain may cause roads to become slick and visibility to be poor. In addition, the weather service’s recommendation cautions drivers and pedestrians to stay away from areas that may flood, particularly as the severe weather persists throughout the week.
Johannesburg’s EMS are keeping an eye on the situation and are prepared to react quickly to any issues as the storms develop. In order to be safe in the days ahead, residents are urged to remain informed and adopt the appropriate safety measures.
