(The Post News)– South African teenager Ruche Moodley is gearing up to make history in the 2025 Moto3 championship, becoming the first South African of colour to compete at this level. The Gqeberha-born rider is taking a bold step towards his ultimate dream of racing in MotoGP.
Moodley, the son of former SA superbike champion Arushen Moodley, has honed his skills in the fiercely competitive Red Bull Rookies Cup, consistently finishing in the top ten and even securing his first podium at Le Mans in France. His impressive performances have earned him a spot on the BOE Motorsports team, where he will race alongside New Zealand’s Cormac Buchanan on KTM machines.
Reflecting on this milestone, Moodley expressed his excitement about the opportunity, emphasising his commitment to making the most of it through hard work and perseverance. His ambition has always been clear: to become a MotoGP World Champion.
BOE Motorsports team owner, Jose Angel Gutierrez Boe, is optimistic about Moodley’s potential, noting that his performance during testing in Portimao was promising. The team is prepared for a challenging season but believes that good results are within reach.
Moodley follows in the footsteps of Brad Binder, South Africa’s only Moto3 world champion, who continues to inspire the next generation of riders. With Binder competing in MotoGP, his brother Darryn in Moto2, and Moodley in Moto3, South African fans have plenty to look forward to on race days.
The 2025 Moto3 season will span 22 grand prix races across 18 countries, kicking off in Thailand on 2 March and concluding in Valencia, Spain, on 16 November. As Moodley embarks on this historic journey, he is determined to showcase his talent and make South Africa proud on the global stage.
