Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have been fined R150,000 and R125,000 respectively for spectator misconduct, following a ruling by the Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee.
(The Post News)- The Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee (PSLDC) has slapped Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates with hefty fines. According to prosecutor Zola Majavu, both teams were charged for spectator misconduct.
In their match against Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates entered a guilty plea for the same offense. Kaizer Chiefs, on the other hand, were charged with and pleaded guilty to hurling missiles during the recent Soweto Derby.
Orlando Pirates were also charged R100,000 for the new offense of hurling missiles against Sundowns. After entering a guilty plea, they were ordered to pay R75,000 immediately, with R25,000 suspended. Additionally, Pirates had a suspended sentence of R50,000 from a prior occurrence that was activated because they committed the same offense within a year, bringing their total fine to R125,000.
To drive the point home that this kind of behavior punishes the clubs rather than the offenders, both teams were instructed to post these fines on their websites within seven days. They will also split the costs of Thursday’s court hearing.
