Mamelodi Sundowns bounced back from their previous loss to TS Galaxy with a convincing 4-1 win at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday night.
(The Post News)- Mamelodi Sundowns gained sweet revenge as they defeated TS Galaxy 4-1 in the Betway Premiership game at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday night. After losing to Galaxy the previous week, Sundowns entered this game seeking revenge. Fortunately for them, luck was on their side as they came into this game hoping to exact revenge.
Peter Shalulile, Jayden Adams, and Iqraam Rayners each scored a goal to give the home team four goals. Sphiwe Mahlangu scored the goal for Galaxy.
Both teams had a strong start to the match, dominating the first fifteen minutes. Shalulile, the Namibian talisman, gave the Brazilians an early goal in the opening minute.
Rayners, a former forward for Stellenbosch, scored the second goal in the seventh minute, but it was still insufficient. Following Rayners’ score, Mahlangu gave the Rockets a fantastic goal in the tenth minute.
Both the Rockets and the Tshwane giant were hit in the 25th minute. Teboho Mokoena replaced Victor Letsoalo when Letsoalo was sent off for fouling Bathusi Aubaas, who was injured.
Following the red card, the visitors’ pace began to slow down. After Marks Munyai blocked Shalulile’s attempt, Miguel Cardoso’s team capitalized on the advantage and extended their lead in the 38th minute with a fantastic goal from Adams.
Rayners scored a brace to give Sundowns a fourth goal within five minutes as they rallied strongly in the second half. In the 53rd minute, Shalulile’s nearly spectacular bicycle kick flew over the bar.
Rayners, Marcelo Allende, and Lucas Ribeiro were replaced by Arthur Sales, Kobamelo Kodisang, and Kutlwano Letlhaku in Cardoso’s first three changes. After he was introduced, Sales had a chance, but Ira Tape sadly saved his shot.
The Rockets struggled throughout the second half and didn’t even have a shot at goal.
After defeating Cape Town City on Saturday afternoon, the Brazilians have now regained a 12-point advantage over the Orlando Pirates, who are currently in second place with 36 points. Despite having only played 15 games, the Pirates still have three games left, whereas Sundowns has played 18.
In their upcoming match on Wednesday, the Brazilians will travel to Limpopo to play Sekhukhune United. After defeating Amakhosi in the first round at FNB Stadium in Soweto, the Brazilians will take on a struggling Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday in an attempt to defeat them twice in the league this season.
