(The Post News)– Jorge Martin’s title defence is off to a rough start, with the reigning MotoGP champion ruled out of this weekend’s Thailand Grand Prix due to multiple fractures sustained in a recent fall.
The Aprilia rider, who had already suffered several injuries during pre-season testing in Malaysia, fractured his left hand and heel in the latest incident. His team confirmed that he will undergo surgery in Barcelona on Tuesday, with recovery timelines to be determined afterward.
This injury is unrelated to his earlier crash in Malaysia, where he broke his right hand and foot after being thrown off his bike at Sepang’s turn two. Martin, 27, had only recently completed surgery on his right hand before this latest setback.
The Spaniard, who switched to Aprilia after clinching the 2024 title with Pramac Ducati, will be replaced by test rider Lorenzo Savadori for the Thailand GP.
