(The Post News)- Michelle Trachtenberg, the talented actress who stole hearts with her iconic roles in “Gossip Girl” and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” has passed away at the age of 39. The New York Police Department (NYPD) confirmed that officers responded to a 911 call at Trachtenberg’s apartment in New York City around 8:00 a.m. on February 26. Tragically, she was found unconscious and unresponsive by her mother, police sources revealed.
Trachtenberg’s remarkable acting career spanned over two decades, beginning with her early roles in Nickelodeon projects like “The Adventures of Pete & Pete” and the film “Harriet the Spy.” Her breakout role came when she played Dawn Summers on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” from 2000 to 2003, earning her a Teen Choice Award nomination for Choice TV Sidekick in 2001.
She also gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of Georgina Sparks on “Gossip Girl,” appearing in 28 episodes between 2008 and 2012. The show’s creators, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, released a heartfelt statement, saying, “Michelle was so funny, kind, and talented… Her portrayal of Georgina Sparks was an iconic fan favourite and grew from a one-season villain to a beloved character who returned over the course of six seasons.”
Trachtenberg’s film credits include the 2005 teen classic “Ice Princess,” where she played math prodigy and aspiring figure skater Casey Carlyle. Her co-star, Kim Cattrall, shared a touching tribute on social media, posting a picture of herself and Trachtenberg from the movie.
