(The Post News)– Formula One’s prestigious Monaco Grand Prix is set for a shake-up, with the Federation Internationale de I’Automobile (FIA) introducing two mandatory pit stops per driver to enhance the race’s excitement. The decision, which doubles the current minimum, was approved at the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council’s first meeting of the year.
The new regulation requires drivers to use at least three different sets of tyres during the race, with at least two different compounds if conditions remain dry. Given Monaco’s notoriously tight street circuit, where overtaking is rare, the adjustment aims to inject more strategy and unpredictability into the event.
The challenge of overtaking in Monaco has long made qualifying the weekend’s highlight. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, a Monaco native, recently shared his thoughts on the race dynamics, noting that while Saturday’s qualifying is thrilling, Sunday’s main event can often feel uneventful. He expressed optimism that the rule change could add more excitement to the Grand Prix.
The Monaco GP, set against the stunning Mediterranean backdrop, remains one of the most iconic races on the calendar. With this strategic overhaul, fans can expect a more dynamic and engaging spectacle in 2025.
