(The Post News)– Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy engaged in a heated argument with the United States of America President Donald Trump and Vice President James Vance at the White House’s Oval Office on Friday.
Before he decided to be part of the “deal signing and peace talks” meeting with US leaders, Zelenskyy had been sceptical about Russia’s diplomatic commitment.
Reports have stated that Zelenskyy revealed that his country requires assurance in terms of preventing Moscow’s return, citing the move to join the European Union (EU) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) as the best option to end the war. “We hope that we can finish this war this year,” he said.
In a statement issued on X, Trump said they had a meaningful meeting in the White House, and much was learnt that could never be understood without conversation under fire and pressure.
Trump added that the power of emotions is “amazing” and that Zelenskyy is not “ready for peace” if the United States is involved. According to Trump, Zelenskyy believes the United States’ presence gives “him (us)” a significant advantage in the talks. Trump further stated that he does not want advantage; he wants peace.
Zelenskyy mentioned that Vance and Trump did not feel the consequences of the war in Ukraine yet because of geography but would feel it in the future. Meanwhile, the Republican president told Zelenskyy that he either signs the deal or loses their support.
“We are trying to solve a problem. Don’t tell us what we are going to feel, because you are in no position to dictate that exactly. You are in no position to dictate what we’re going to feel,” Trump said.
Moreover, upon the cancellation of the news conference, Trump claimed that Zelenskyy disrespected the US and can come back when he is ready for peace.
