(The Post News)– Ireland captain Caelan Doris is on track to return from a knee injury in time for their crucial Six Nations encounter against France in Dublin on Saturday, according to the Irish Rugby Football Union.
A statement confirmed that the loose forward is making “positive strides” in his rehabilitation. Meanwhile, Jack Conan, who stepped in for Doris during last month’s win over Wales, is also expected to recover after a back injury forced him off early in Cardiff.
Doris picked up his knee injury during Ireland’s second match of the tournament against Scotland, while hooker Ronan Kelleher and prop Tadhg Furlong are also under assessment this week following their respective neck and leg issues.
As the defending champions, Ireland will see this weekend’s fixture as a key decider for the title, with France expected to be their toughest challengers once again. To bolster their squad depth, Ireland has called up Max Deegan (loose forward), Darragh Murray (lock), Tommy O’Brien (centre), and Tom O’Toole (prop) as cover.
In addition to squad updates, Ireland confirmed contract extensions for key players. Winger Mack Hansen, who has earned 27 caps, has signed a two-year deal with Connacht and Ireland, while lock Joe McCarthy secured a three-year contract, committing to Ireland and Leinster until the end of the 2027/28 season.
