(The Post News)– President Donald Trump is contemplating large-scale US sanctions on Russia. This comes after he paused military aid and intelligence support to Ukraine and called on both countries to start negotiating a peace deal.
Trump stated that because Russia is currently “pounding” Ukraine on the battlefield, he is seriously contemplating massive banking sanctions and tariffs on Russia until a truce and ultimate peace settlement deal is reached. Trump also condemned Russia’s recent strikes on Ukraine, stating that Russia is currently bombing Ukraine and that he is very opposed to this. According to reports, Russia is already under the most extreme Western sanctions in its history, mostly targeting its oil exports and foreign currency reserves.
Reports have also stated that Russian forces damaged energy and gas infrastructure inside Ukraine overnight in their first missile attack since Trump paused intelligence support for Ukraine. Moreover, according to Ukrainian officials, ten people, including a minor, were injured. In response to the attacks, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy said that in order to establish real peace, such attacks from Russia must be stopped.
Meanwhile, Trump addressed the media and stated that he is “finding it very hard to deal with Ukraine,“ while ensuring that he still trusts Russian President Vladimir Putin. He did not, however, mention the details of the possible sanctions against Russia.
