(The Post News)- Pope Francis, who has been hospitalized since February 14 due to a severe respiratory infection, has shown slight improvements in his condition, according to recent updates from the Vatican.
The 88-year-old pontiff now spends part of the day using only a nasal tube for oxygen and is gradually reducing nighttime use of a noninvasive ventilation mask. Despite these developments, his release date from Gemelli Hospital remains uncertain, as does confirmation on his participation in upcoming events, such as King Charles III’s visit and Holy Week in April.
In light of Pope Francis’ health challenges, King Charles III and Queen Camilla are hopeful to proceed with their planned state visit to the Vatican and Italy next month. The visit, scheduled to begin on April 7, includes a meeting with the Pope set for April 8. The trip aims to enhance relations between the Church of England, headed by King Charles, and the Catholic Church and coincides with the 2025 Catholic Holy Year.
The Vatican has been cautious in providing updates, noting that while Pope Francis’ condition has stabilized, he continues to receive medical treatment and requires rest. The Pope’s participation in upcoming events, including the Holy Week ceremonies, remains uncertain as doctors monitor his recovery.
The global Catholic community continues to pray for Pope Francis’ recovery, with many expressing hope for his swift return to his pastoral duties. The situation remains fluid, and further updates from the Vatican are anticipated in the coming days.
