(The Post News)– London Irish led heartfelt tributes to Eddie Jordan, the former Formula 1 team owner and entrepreneur, after his passing at 76. Jordan, who recently co-led a consortium to rescue the club from administration, died in Cape Town surrounded by loved ones.
Diagnosed with bladder and prostate cancer last year, Jordan revealed in December that the disease had spread. Despite his battle, he remained committed to rugby, discussing his ambitions for London Irish as recently as St Patrick’s Day. “He was dedicated until the very end,” a spokesperson shared, reflecting on his unwavering passion for the sport.
Beyond his London Irish venture, Jordan partnered with former Springbok captain Bob Skinstad and All Blacks great Andrew Mehrtens to acquire French club Béziers. The club expressed its condolences and confirmed plans for a tribute at their next home game.
London Irish’s new ownership group, The Jordan Associates, had only announced its takeover last month, vowing a “swift return” to competitive rugby with an innovative fan ownership model. “There will never be another Eddie Jordan,” the statement concluded.
