UMkhonto weSizwe Party Secretary General Floyd Shivambu suggests that a responsible South African government would engage with countries like Russia, China, and the United Arab Emirates to secure market access.
(The Post News)- UMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK) Secretary General Floyd Shivambu, discussing geopolitics and international relations on Tuesday, March 25, stated that his party commends US President Donald Trump’s efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war. “We commend the fact that he is going to end the war… he is going to end the worst bullying tactics in relation to the so-called green transition,” Shivambu said.
Shivambu criticized the previous US administration, particularly the Democrats, for “irrationally and senselessly imposing the green agenda” on South Africa. He claimed that the US instructed the South African government to stop producing electricity using coal and other fossil fuels, citing the Green New Deal policy adopted by the US in 2019.
Shivambu blamed South Africa’s load shedding on the US’s previous administration, stating that the country was forced to abandon coal and fossil fuels, sometimes based on questionable scientific grounds. “That is why we had perennial problems with electricity… they were saying do not burn coal, do not use fossil fuels,” he said.
The secretary general also accused the US of “imperialism” driven by the “green agenda,” which he believed would end with Trump’s presidency. Regarding the recent US diplomatic fallout, Shivambu suggested that a responsible South African government would engage with countries like Russia, China, and the United Arab Emirates to secure market access.
