(The Post News)- A devastating truck fire brought traffic to a standstill on the R40 road in Hazyview, Mpumalanga, this morning. The truck, belonging to Jackson Transports, was en route to OBC to deliver meat and drinks when the blaze erupted.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire was triggered by the brick pads while the driver was driving. The incident occurred around 09:00, causing chaos on the national road as people headed to work and went about their daily business.
An eyewitness who works at the nearby Total garage described the scene: “We saw the truck burning from a distance and immediately warned the driver to stop. After he stopped and jumped out, the fire escalated to the front of the truck and quickly spread.”
Police and traffic officials quickly arrived on the scene to monitor the situation and ensure everyone’s safety. They blocked the road, preventing any cars from passing until the situation was under control.
Two bystanders attempted to extinguish the fire using water trucks before the firefighters arrived. Unfortunately, their efforts were unsuccessful, and the truck was left in ashes.
After the firefighters finally brought the blaze under control, community members began collecting the burned meat and cold drinks that were inside the truck. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident, and the driver managed to escape to safety. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The incident caused significant disruptions to traffic, but thankfully, no other vehicles were involved, and everyone is safe.
