(The Post News)- Kenya’s Mohammed Bajaber has shed light on the words of encouragement he received from Benni McCarthy before scoring a stunning goal in their 3-3 draw against Gambia during Thursday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
The Harambee Stars had to fight back twice in the thrilling encounter, with Bajaber making his debut after being introduced in the second half. The 21-year-old made an immediate impact, levelling the score at 2-2 with a well-executed strike.
Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Bajaber shared that McCarthy urged him to step onto the field with confidence and play with enjoyment. The young forward also emphasised that his goal was a result of consistent practice rather than mere chance.
He explained that he had been honing that particular technique for a long time, often being the first player on the pitch during his time at City Stars to sharpen his finishing skills. He also mentioned that he continues to put in additional individual training at his current club to improve his game.
