(The Post News)– Rachel Kolisi, co-founder and former CEO of the Kolisi Foundation, has officially filed a complaint with the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) on March 25, 2025.
This legal action sheds light on significant issues within the foundation, which was established in 2019 by Rachel and her former husband, Siya Kolisi, a celebrated captain of the Springbok rugby team. According to media reports from IOL, In her complaint, Rachel Kolisi claims “constructive dismissal,” asserting that the foundation’s board created an intolerable work environment that ultimately forced her to resign from her position.
Under South African labor law, constructive dismissal occurs when an employee feels compelled to resign due to an unbearable situation deliberately created by their employer. Rachel’s allegations spotlight the tensions within the organization, particularly as she describes a culture that allegedly fostered unfair treatment, leaving her with no viable option but to step down. In addition to seeking either reinstatement or financial compensation for the distress caused by her departure, Rachel’s legal move draws attention to the complexities of the organizational dynamics at the Kolisi Foundation.
The board comprises several prominent figures, including Siya Kolisi and Hannah Sadiki from Bidvest Financial Services, which raises questions about the influence of personal relationships on professional decisions within the foundation. This legal dispute comes on the heels of Rachel’s announcement of her departure from the foundation in February 2025, which had already stirred discussions about the future leadership structure of the organization.
Adding another layer to this narrative is the couple’s recent divorce announcement in October 2024, which has undoubtedly intensified the scrutiny surrounding the foundation’s governance and mission. The Kolisi Foundation, dedicated to addressing social inequalities in South Africa, has garnered attention and support since its inception. As the foundation navigates this turbulent phase, the outcome of Rachel Kolisi’s legal proceedings will likely have far-reaching implications not only for its operations but also for its ongoing initiatives aimed at uplifting marginalized communities.
