(The Post News)– Lilia Vu finished strong on Saturday, birdieing three of the last four holes to secure a two-stroke lead over England’s Charley Hull after the third round of the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Ford Championship in Chandler, Arizona.
Vu acknowledged the challenging conditions, noting that she had struggled with her ball-striking in recent rounds but felt much more in control on Saturday. Hull, who closed with a birdie for her round of 68, sits at 200, setting up a final-round showdown with Vu. Japan’s Ayaka Furue and Denmark’s Nanna Koerstz Madsen are tied for third at 201.
A double bogey on the 14th briefly saw Vu and Hull tied, but the American quickly recovered with three consecutive birdies to regain the upper hand. Reflecting on the setback, Vu mentioned that she needed to reset mentally. She credited her caddie for keeping her focused on reaching the greens, allowing her to finish strong.
A former world No.1, Vu is eyeing her sixth LPGA title and first victory since the Meijer Classic last June, after missing three months with a lingering back injury. However, she remains focused on enjoying the game rather than dwelling on the result.
Hull, ranked 10th in the world, is chasing her third career LPGA win and first since 2022. She and Vu traded blows throughout the round, with the American proving resilient each time she was challenged. The final round promises an exciting battle, with Vu aiming to seal the win and Hull looking to stage a late charge.
