(The Post News)– President Cyril Ramaphosa has confirmed the meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the African National Congress (ANC) in attempts to solve issues within the Government of National Unity (GNU).
While 194 members of parliament voted in support to adopt the 2025 fiscal framework report that was tasking the National Treasury with finding alternatives to the VAT hike within 30 days, 182 voted against it. Ramaphosa said that the proposed report for alternatives to the VAT increase will be discussed and examined.
In relation to the scaffolding, DA leader John Steenhuisen told media in Southgate, Phoenix, during the party’s by-election campaign during the weekend that they are not going to abandon the GNU, saying that they have been receiving letters from business leaders pleading with them to remain in government.
However, Ramaphosa underlined that entrepreneurs have no effect on government or ANC choices, stressing that the ANC is not pressured by business or anybody else, but is solely influenced by what its people say.
