Following a series of incidents involving fan misconduct, CAF has implemented new security measures to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for fans attending the Champions League and Confederation Cup quarterfinal matches.
(The Post News)- The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has decided to strengthen its security measures following a brawl between supporters after Mamelodi Sundowns’ victory over Esperance. The incident, which occurred at Loftus Stadium, prompted CAF to take action to prevent similar incidents in the future.
In a meeting held last Thursday, CAF’s Security and Safety Department discussed the issue of fan behavior with representatives from all teams competing in the quarterfinals of the Champions League and Confederation Cup, including Sundowns, Orlando Pirates, and Stellenbosch.
As a result of the meeting, CAF and the clubs agreed to implement new security measures. Each team will have a fan club official to assist in organizing and communicating with stadium fans. Additionally, CAF has requested that the clubs contact their respective national associations to strengthen security measures before this week’s return legs.
The decision comes after a series of incidents involving fan violence and misconduct. In the match between Pyramids FC and FAR Rabat, visiting supporters were not allowed to enter the stadium due to a dispute over ticket allocation. MC Alger also sent a strong message to their fans before their match against Orlando Pirates.
CAF’s decision to strengthen its security measures aims to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for fans attending the quarterfinal matches. The new measures will help to prevent incidents of fan violence and promote a positive atmosphere at the stadiums.
