(The Post News)– On April 2, three Burgersfort boys, Gauta Mahlakoane, Maxwell Ndou, and Karabo Makoo, took the initiative to ride their bikes for over 1,600 kilometres from Burgersfort “Tubatse” to Cape Town.
Their aim is to generate donations for their biking club, Gauta BMX, which intends to prevent drug use and gangsterism among young people and to also promote positivity among them in their neighbourhood.
Their journey, which displayed resilience and determination, captured the hearts of South Africans. Before they left home, they had only one sponsor, Matentjie.
Through social media platforms, they have been able to grab attention from a renowned figure who always comes out to support, Karabo Mokgara, ‘Dj Karri’. He joined and supported the trio from Gauteng and drove with them to Cape Town when they rode.
Posting about the trio and making awareness, the trio got attention and support from local, private businesses and elite people. The likes of Driekop FM, Sekhukhune Off-road Club, Fetakgomo/Tubatse Municipality “Mayor Eddie Maila”, Lephalale Municipality “Mayor Aaron Mokgetle”, and Burgersfort millionaire Morgan Mohlala donated for the trio, along with many more other entities.
Red Bull South Africa also came through to provide them with essentials, gear, nutritional support, and logistical support. The trio is supported by many people, yet the Department of Sports, Art, and Culture is quiet and being mentioned daily. Meanwhile, KFC has promised to donate something for the trio, while Jacaranda FM has donated R20,000
The journey is expected to end on April 14, meaning they planned for an 11-day adventure. But reports show that they have arrived in the Western Cape as of today, April 11. They plan to stop in Leeu Gamaka, Laingsburg, and Worcester before their final destination. After passing through six provinces on bike – Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Gauteng, Free State, Northern Cape, and the Western Cape.
