(The Post News)– As thousands of football fans are expected to flock to Durban for the highly anticipated Nedbank Cup Final at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, eThekwini Municipality has issued a warning to visiting fans to avoid falling victim to fraud when booking accommodation.
The thrill of the most intense final match between Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates is expected to bring in more tourists to the city. This final has been marked as the return of the tournament after it was last hosted in 2019.
EThekwini Municipality Mayor, Cllr Cyril Xaba, welcomed the return of this event, highlighting their readiness and citing that it benefits the economy and tourism.
He urged visitors to explore and enjoy the “rich cultural offerings, stunning beaches, and diverse attractions” that make Durban a desirable tourist destination locally and internationally. However, he also encouraged visitors to remain vigilant and avoid scammers, particularly when booking accommodation online.
According to Xaba, visitors are urged to research accommodation before booking, looking for customer reviews and ratings across multiple platforms, and to also be cautious if reviews appear overly positive or generic, as they may be fabricated. Moreover, Xaba also advised the visitors to carefully verify any packages that advertise “free tickets” and urged them to obtain their tickets exclusively through registered outlets.
Meanwhile, following the chaos that erupted yesterday caused by system delays due to the “unprecedented surge” on Computicket and Open Ticket online sites, Open Tickets has issued a statement stating that they are urgently addressing the matter.
They also stated that a full report will be submitted to the Premier Soccer League (PSL), and affected customers will receive direct communication regarding ticket status—digital reissues and refunds where applicable.
The outlet vowed to resolve the issue and restore the service as quickly as possible and stated that further updates will be shared via their official platforms.
