(The Post News)– The 11th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) took place on May 10, 2025, at the Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos, Nigeria. The ceremony was a grand celebration of African film excellence, honoring outstanding performances, productions, and contributions to the industry.
Two films stood out as the biggest winners of the night: “Seven Doors” and “Lisabi: The Uprising”. “Seven Doors” secured three major awards: Best Lead Actor: Femi Adebayo for his commanding portrayal of Adedunjoye; Best Lead Actress: Chioma Chukwuka for her compelling role as Amaka; and Best Music/Score: Tolu Obanro for the film’s artistic depth and sonic appeal.

Best Movie: “Freedom Way” by Blessing Uzzi
Best Director: Awam Amkpa for “The Man Died”
Best Supporting Actor: Gabriel Afolayan for “Inside Life”
Best Supporting Actress: Mercy Aigbe for “Farmer’s Bride”
The AMVCA also paid tribute to industry legends, recognising their decades-long contributions to the Nigerian and African film industries. Sani Mu’azu and Nkem Owoh received “Lifetime Achievement Awards”, while Director Kayode Kasum was honoured with the “Trailblazer Award” for his innovative and genre-defying approach to film making.
Busola Tejumola, Executive Head of Content and Channels, West Africa, at MultiChoice, emphasized the awards’ commitment to capacity building, evolving the industry, and producing and distributing the best local content available on the continent. Over 11 years, the AMVCA has invested over 9 billion (equal to R102 001 050.00) in gas, indicating its commitment to developing African cinema talent and supporting industry excellence.
