(The Post News)– Valeria Márquez, a 23-year-old Mexican beauty influencer, was tragically shot and killed during a TikTok live stream on May 13, 2025, in Zapopan, Jalisco.
During the live stream, two individuals posing as delivery people entered the salon. One of them claimed to have an “expensive gift” for Márquez and handed her a pink stuffed toy. Moments later, he opened fire, shooting her multiple times in the chest and head. The assailants then fled the scene on a motorcycle. Emergency respondents pronounced Márquez dead at the scene.
Prior to the attack, Márquez had expressed concern during her live stream about a suspicious delivery attempt, mentioning that someone had previously tried to send her an expensive gift. She also had reportedly mentioned conflicts with her ex-partner, whom she had accused of making threats against her.
The Jalisco State Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the case as a potential femicide, a gender-based killing. As of now, no suspects have been named or apprehended. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and renewed discussions about gender-based violence (GBV) and the safety of public figures in Mexico.
Mexico has one of the highest femicide rates in Latin America, with 1.3 deaths per 100,000 women reported in 2023. Jalisco ranks sixth in the country for homicides, with 906 reported since October 2024.
Following Márquez’s death, her TikTok account has been deleted, but numerous fake accounts have appeared, prompting concerns about misinformation and exploitation.
