The case of Canadian rapper, singer, and songwriter Daystar Shemuel Shua Peterson, famously known as Tory Lanez, has encountered many controversies, prompting mounting calls for his release.
Tory Lanez is in prison, serving a 10-year sentence for shooting American rapper Megan Jovon Ruth Thee Stallion. Meanwhile, a fundraiser petition has been initiated, asking people to rally behind the call to have him released from prison.
The petition comes after new evidence was presented by Tory Lanez’s legal team, arguing that their client did not shoot Megan Thee Stallion. His team further suggests that Kelsey Harris’ bodyguard is the one who shot Megan, as per Harris’ testimony.
The petition further notes that Tory Lanez’s DNA was not found on the magazine of the gun; gunshot residue was identified in both Lanez and Kelsey Harris, but only Lanez’s DNA was examined; and sworn affidavits and eyewitness testimony that contradict the prosecutor’s narrative were ignored or suppressed.
The petition has urged the governor to order a full impartial review of the case to ensure that no one else is subjected to a similar injustice. On the other hand, the petition has since gained momentum, with over 95,000 signatures.
