(The Post News)– Gauteng Golden Fireballs coach Elsje Jordaan says being top of the Telkom Netball League (TNL) log makes them a target—but that’s how they like it.
According to Jordan, being number one is something they embrace since it puts pressure on them to perform better, and when teams bring their A-game, it encourages them to make better decisions.
Despite their strong start, Jordaan won’t entertain talk of titles just yet. The Jaguars, Crinums, and Fireballs are the only teams to have lifted the trophy since 2014. “We’re focused on each quarter, each five-minute block. The scoreboard will take care of itself.”
The Fireballs coach admits preparations for the opening round were tough, with many squads finalised late. “We were completely blind. Now we can counter and neutralise,” she said.
Jordaan is especially proud of her team’s growth. “It’s the same players, but older, smarter, and more mature. The standard is already higher than last year.”
Fireballs shooter Owethu Ngubane leads the Super Shot charts with nine successful long-range goals. While Jordaan welcomes the excitement the new rule brings, she believes it should apply equally.
“It juices up the game, but I’d like it used for both teams during every Super Shot period,” she said
