(The Post News)- Community of Fleurhof marched to Florida police station to demand justice for 11-year- old Jayden-lee Meek.
The 11- year- old went missing on Tuesday and was later found near his house naked in a suitcase.
Speaking to Newzroom Afrika Jayden-lee’s mother said they have lots of questions but the police still haven’t provided answers to.
She described her son as a bubbly, mischievous boy who touched the heart of everyone he came in contact with. “I don’t think this person who did what they did to my child, understands what he has taken from so many people’s lives,” she continued. The mother wants justice for his son and she believes that justice will prevail either way, citing that if the police do not deliver justice her family will.
Addressing marchers Jaden-lee’ s uncle confirmed that the family have engaged with the police and the police have assured them that the investigation is underway and they will be kept in the know. He went on to emphasize that this is not about politics but it is about safety of their children. March organizer Shelby said the new station commander follow in the shoes of the previous commander by meeting with the community so that the community can be in the know of what is happening in their community.
Members of the community are demanding police visibility and closer health facilities, “They must be visible all the time, atleast an hour, just two vans move around, that’s all we want so that we know we are safe. And even the clinic itself, we are suffering, if they say they found that boy warm that time, had there been a local clinic around then probably they could have saved his life, so now if the police were visible and even the clinic was closer anything could have happened, he could have been saved.” Community leader Tebogo Phillips speaking to Newzroom Afrika
