(The Post News)– Local health authorities have confirmed that an airstrike killed 24 Palestinians as Israel continues its bombardment of Gaza. The deceased are reported to have been among the displaced families living in a tent settlement in Khan Younis, southern Gaza.
This follows ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas on Saturday, 17 May 2025, in Qatar. On January 19, ceasefire negotiations began between the two countries, bringing relief to over 2 million Palestinians in the enclave after 15 months of war. However, in the past three days, Israel intensified its military campaign in the enclave, with airstrikes killing hundreds of people.
Nonetheless, the Gaza health ministry asserted that despite U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to the region, Israeli strikes have claimed hundreds of Palestinian lives in the past few days. Meanwhile, Hamas denounced the strike as a “new brutal crime” and blamed the U.S. administration for the escalation.
On Thursday, May 16, during a roundtable talk in Qatar, Trump proposed a U.S. takeover of Gaza as a way of attempting to redevelop the Palestinian territory. Trump said he would be happy to make Palestine a “free zone”.
