(The Post News)– 82-year-old former U.S. president Joe Biden has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Biden’s office released a statement on Sunday confirming the diagnosis, noting that the cancer has spread to his bones.
The former president was diagnosed last Friday after experiencing urinary symptoms. According to the statement, the cancer has a Gleason score of 9, classified as Grade Group 5, and has spread to the bone. However, they assured the public that although the cancer appears to be more aggressive, it is hormone-sensitive, which may be manageable.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump, who succeeded Biden, expressed his sadness on social media. He noted that he and his wife are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis.
Biden was elected as U.S. president on 7 November 2020 at the age of 78. His health—which led him to dropping out of the presidential race in 2024—and age were among the things people were concerned about during his term as a U.S. president. Some considered him the oldest president in U.S. history. He was elected as the 46th president of the United States, defeating Donald Trump with 52.3% of the votes.
Kamala Harris, who has been a nominee in the 2024 November presidential elections, has extended her heartfelt wishes and prayers to the Biden family. She stated Biden’s life and leadership have been marked by unwavering optimism and strength, qualities he will draw upon in this difficult time.
