(The Post News)– South Africans have been encouraged to enjoy the last few days of moderately warm weather, as a cold front—expected to begin on Tuesday—is anticipated in different parts of the country.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has advised the country to bundle up in preparation for a cold front, as there is a strong likelihood for ‘possible snow’ and ‘isolated rainfall’ projected to spread from the higher altitude regions of the Western and Eastern Cape provinces. Although it may be moderately warm in most parts of the country, SAWS announces a level four warning for hazardous winds in the Western Cape, resulting in major temperature drops across the remote eastern region.
Warnings have been issued out to people that the isolated damage could possibly impact formal and informal communities, mainly in the Northern and Western Cape, as a result of the yellow level 2 winds that SAWS predicted for Tuesday, May 20th. SAWS projects these severe winds to extend across the ‘Central Karoo of Western Cape’, all the way to the ‘Namakwa District in Northern Cape’.
It has been advised that motorists, especially those who operate elevated vehicles, be careful when travelling, particularly when driving along the N1. On account of the strong winds that reportedly blew trees over, localised power has been interrupted, which SAWS reports to be ‘affecting transport routes’, thus resulting in ‘extended travel times’.
