The African National Congress (ANC) is mourning the loss of its Women’s League Deputy President, Lungi Mnganga-Gcabashe, who passed away on Saturday, May 17th, at the age of 64. The cause of death has not been confirmed.
Mnganga-Gcabashe was remembered as a humble servant of the people and a fierce advocate for peace, women’s emancipation, and dignity. ANC spokesperson Mahlangu Motsiri described her as a dedicated leader who was a committed builder of the liberation movement.
According to the ANC, Mnganga-Gcabashe embodied quiet strength and calm oversight. As Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Public Enterprises and later the Portfolio Committee on Tourism, she worked with care, compassion, and integrity. Her commitment to accountability was driven by her love for the constitution, public institutions, and the people.
The ANC expressed gratitude to Mnganga-Gcabashe’s family for sharing her with the nation, acknowledging her lasting impact on South African society.
