The KwaZulu-Natal community came together to bid farewell to the Thusi family members who tragically lost their lives in a horrific accident on the N2 highway last week Sunday. The victims, who were traveling to church in Mtuba, included a 37-year-old, two 17-year-olds, a 15-year-old, and two young children aged five and two years.
KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli deployed the MEC for Education, Mr. Sipho Hlomuka, and the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), Reverend Mr. Thulasizwe Buthelezi, to attend the mass funeral and offer condolences to the grieving family.
As the government mourns the loss of these young lives, they have taken swift action, arresting 11 people for reckless driving in connection with the tragic incident. Unfortunately, another person died at the Ngwelezane hospital, although it is unclear if they were part of the Thusi family.
Premier Ntuli’s deployment of MECs Hlomuka and Buthelezi demonstrates the government’s commitment to supporting the affected families and the community during this difficult time. The tragic incident has left an inconsolable void in the hearts of the families, friends, and the broader community, and the government aims to provide assistance to those affected.
The government’s response also includes providing counseling and support services to the families and addressing the issue of reckless driving on the roads. As the community begins the healing process, the focus will be on ensuring justice is served and measures are put in place to prevent such tragedies in the future.
