(The Post News)- The red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival is known for its glamour and excitement. However, for Denzel Washington, the evening took an unexpected turn. Before receiving a lifetime achievement award, the veteran actor had a testy encounter with a photographer. The photographer grabbed Washington’s arm while he was posing for photos, prompting the actor to shake him off and firmly tell him to stop.
Despite this awkward incident, Washington’s mood seemed to lift when he received the honorary Palme d’Or award. Festival director Thierry Fremaux introduced a montage of Washington’s most memorable performances, including his iconic roles in “Malcolm X” and “Mo’ Better Blues,” both directed by Spike Lee.
The audience was wowed by Washington’s impressive filmography, which also included clips from “Glory” and “Training Day.” These films showcased his incredible talent and earned him two Oscar wins. The celebration continued with the screening of his new film, where A$AP Rocky and Rihanna, his co-stars, were in attendance.
Washington’s film, loosely adapted from Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 classic “High and Low,” received rave reviews. Critics praised his “magnificent form” and “grinning monarchical assurance” in the movie. The film’s “wit, high style, and kinetic energy” were also highlighted by critics.
The evening ended on a high note for Washington, with the lifetime achievement award serving as a testament to his remarkable contributions to the film industry. Despite the earlier red-carpet clash, Washington’s night was filled with admiration and appreciation from the Cannes audience.
