(The Post News)- Coach Rulani Mokwena cut his contract short with Wydad. It is alleged that Rhulani Mokwena accepted Wydad Athletic Casablanca’s offer amid the club saga and the coach’s challenges. Mokwena’s contract was supposed to run until June 2027, but due to psychological pressure, a series of disappointing results, and non-payments, he asked to leave prior to the agreed term’s finish. His departure is amicable, with both parties agreeing to part ways respectfully.
While coaching Wydad, Rhulani faced difficulties such as being unpaid, dealing with an unsettled squad, and management issues. According to reports, Rhulani was offered a monthly salary of R724,000, which was later proposed to be R398,000 supplemented with bonuses and grants. Despite the adjustments, Rhulani carried on with his job.
Wydad issued a joint statement on May 20, 2025, announcing that the club and Rhulani are parting ways. On April 10, 2025, Rhulani’s agent revealed that they had agreed with the club to part ways with the coach at the end of the season. Then, on April 29, Rhulani was granted special leave due to the psychological pressure he faced.
The club statement expressed gratitude to the coach and his technical staff for their commitment, sacrifices, and hard work. Rulani wished the club tremendous success in the Club World Cup and the upcoming season for Botola Pro League. Before accepting the offer to Morocco, Rhulani had an offer from Richards Bay FC, which he declined, stating that he couldn’t envision coaching against Mamelodi Sundowns FC.
