Hamburg authorities investigate the assault of eighteen people
(The Post News)– Police have arrested a woman in her late 30s for attacking 18 people with a knife at the primary train station hub in Hamburg, Germany. The attack was carried out at around six in the evening on Friday, May 23, leaving several victims with deadly injuries.
The Hamburg Central Station facilitates an average of more than 500,000 passengers each day, making it one of the country’s busiest travel points. According to police, the violent onslaught occurred between the thirteenth and the fourteenth platforms at the railway station, as a train stopped on one of the platforms.
Deutsche Bahn, one of the German rail operators, indicated that some of the services at the station were delayed when the event happened due to four other platforms at the station being closed.
According to reports, the attack was ‘politically motivated’, and it is believed that she carried out the act alone. Meanwhile, police spokesperson Florian Abbenseth told news reporters that she believed that the woman may have acted in a ‘mentally distressed condition’.
However, Hamburg authorities are still investigating the woman’s motives within the homicide division as she continues to be in police custody and is set to appear before the court on Saturday.
