(The Post News)- Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba state in a statement confirmed that armed gangs in northeast Nigeria killed a dozen of people in two suspected attacks.
Early Saturday villagers in the Karim Lamido district witnessed the violent attacks, Kefas said ” scores of people reportedly lost their lives and properties.”
Governor Kefas was unable to provide the precise number of those who lost their lives but according to a local news outlet daily post the attacks have claimed 30 lives. It is reported that the attacks are conducted by “bandits”.
Magani resident Moses Kefas told AFP “It was midnight, I heard gunshots, I woke up my brother and other people in our area,”
He added that in his return with the neighbors after the gunmen had left he saw 16 bodies scattered around the village.
” I have seen about 13 bodies in our village,” said Andrew John a Munga resident.
Governor Kefas strongly condemned the violent attacks as “horrendous and unacceptable”. He gave assurance that those who committed these attacks will face the hands of justice and that his top priority is the safety of their citizens.
“We have activated all necessary security measures to prevent further violence and bring those responsible to book.” He said according to daily post.
According to reports Taraba state police command believes the attacks were triggered after tensions were raised ,after a 15-year old boy, Isah Ishaka of Munga Doso, who was allegedly macheted on his farm by an unknown assailant.
Police said efforts to restore calm are underway.
