(The Post News)- The missing case of an 11-year-old boy, Jayden-Lee Meek, has turned to tragedy as he is laid to rest this weekend. The young boy was reported missing a day before his lifeless body was found on a staircase, right near where he lived with his family in Fleurhof, Johannesburg. His body was reported to be found exposed and with several bruises.
The heartbreaking tragedy struck the family of the little boy when he went missing on the 13th of May, after he failed to return home from school. His disappearance triggered immediate concern, with his family reporting him missing that same day. The child’s transport driver had assured the family that the child was indeed dropped off at his place of residence, yet he never made it inside. His body was discovered on the morning of the 14th of May.
In the wake of the devastating loss, his mother came out to express her frustrations and sorrow, describing the process with authorities: “I went to the police station past 7 o’clock and they took forever to write a statement with me…this is a child, it’s not a grown person, it’s not a teenager that could’ve run away… and you didn’t dispatch anybody.” The mother feels the police had been extremely negligent when the little boy had gone missing.
“Jaydee was my life, and he will remain my life…I prayed, and I said thank you God for another year that I get to spend with my child, and now there is no more years. It stops here,” she spoke. As investigations continued into the circumstances surrounding his death, those who knew Jayden-Lee had come forward with heartfelt tributes that painted him as a joyful young soul.
His teacher said he was a joyful bright spark, who excelled in his books and contributed to the overall pleasant environment in his classroom. Classmates had shared memories of the boy, expressing how they would miss his jokes and stories. Today, family and friends gathered to pay their final respect to Jayden-Lee in Johannesburg.
In an atmosphere filled with grief, his loved ones, including his grandparents and parents, participated in a private viewing session before the official funeral service began. Investigations into the young boy’s untimely death remain ongoing, as police continue efforts to uncover the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and death.
