(The Post News)– On Sunday, helicopters delivered crucial animal feed to isolated farmers in South Wales, Australia, following severe flooding that cut off tens of thousands and claimed five lives.
The mid-north coast region of New South Wales is beginning to recover after days of devastating floods that isolated towns, killed livestock, and damaged homes. Authorities estimate that the relentless rain-triggered floods may have damaged at least 10,000 properties. According to the state’s emergency service, around 32,000 residents were still cut off by floodwaters, which were gradually receding.
State Agriculture Minister Tara Moriarty announced that the New South Wales government is offering emergency support, including food, veterinary care, and aerial assistance, to farmers with isolated livestock. A total of 43 helicopter drops and approximately 130 other deliveries had supplied isolated farmers with vital feed for their stranded animals.
The floods reached their worst point when around 50,000 people were isolated, with waters inundating towns, submerging vehicles, and overflowing riverbanks. Moreover, the floods have resulted in five fatalities, including an elderly man whose body was discovered on a flooded property near Taree, a town severely impacted by the disaster. Located on the Manning River, Taree is situated over 300 km north of Sydney, the state capital.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stated on Saturday that the situation remained dire in flood-hit areas of New South Wales, as cleanup operations commenced.
