
(The Post News)– A car struck a group of supporters in the city centre, causing the police to respond swiftly and overshadowing Liverpool’s Premier League trophy parade. The accident resulted in injuries to about 50 individuals.
Early in the afternoon, thousands of supporters flocked to watch the team’s successful journey. The audience cheered and chanted as the motorcade, accompanied by players like Van Dijk and Salah, advanced.
However, the celebrations were cut short, as a car struck a group of fans on Water Street just after 18:00. Emergency services and security personnel rushed to the area to provide medical attention to those impacted and stabilise the situation.
On the spot, a 53-year-old British man who was thought to be the driver was taken into custody. Following the road’s opening, the incident caused jubilation, leaving fans in a state of panic and confusion.
BBC News reported that police are currently investigating allegations of a traffic accident in the heart of Liverpool. Law enforcement reported that on Monday, May 26, just after 6 p.m., they received a call after reports that a car had collided with many pedestrians on Water Street. The police also confirmed the arrest of the suspect and promised to provide new developments on the incident.
According to reports, police cordoned off the area as investigations continue. The event has raised concerns among those there and clouded the club’s and its supporters’ joyous day.
Witnesses verified that the driver struck one individual who was flying into the air, suggesting that the event was intentional. A number of individuals allegedly attempted to stop the man from crashing his car, but he allegedly maintained his foot on the accelerator through the crowd. Over 50 persons were badly hurt in a single incident.
Liverpool Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Billy Hogan issued a message of comfort on behalf of the club. He paid tribute to the emergency services and everyone who helped manage the horrific incident. “I would like to thank our supporters who witnessed this event and helped each other where they could,” said the CEO.
