(The Post News)- The South African broadcasting world bows its head in respect as it bids its farewells to radio trailblazer Darren Scott. Scott lost his battle to malignant melanoma (skin cancer) at the age of 61, in the quiet hours of May 27. His passing was confirmed by Hot 102.7 FM.
The radio legend was best known for his roles on stations including 5FM, Radio Bop, Jacaranda FM, East Coast Radio, and his most recent role at Hot 102.7 FM.
Scott had been diagnosed with the rapidly progressive cancer in 1986, and after the almost forty-year battle, the last few months of his life were reportedly ‘very difficult’.
People have sent out their heartfelt messages and tributes to Scott’s family and loved ones on social media, including Lianca, who thanked Scott for the ‘music, memories, and laughs’, and Susan Mary Cersosimo, who noted that even though it is a ‘sad day’, at least Scott is ‘free from suffering’.
Darren Scott leaves behind two sons, Matthew and Mark, and his ex-wife, Sarah-Kate Accenta. Accenta has conveyed on social media her heartfelt appreciation to everyone who supported them during the difficult time.
