The man arrested for threatening President Ramaphosa, the Cape Town mayor, and Cape Town-based businessman appeared in court.
(The Post News)– The suspect, Phillip Sabelo Masango, a 28-year-old man in the President Ramaphosa threat case, made a court appearance on Monday. The case was postponed to 2 June 2025.
The CEO laid a complaint against the suspect after receiving a call in which he made threats against the president. The CEO allegedly received a threatening voice message on May 12.
According to Hawks spokesperson Thandi Mbambo, the suspect was heard threatening to assassinate President Ramaphosa in a voice recording. Additionally, Mbambo said that the complainant claimed that the suspect sent her many additional intimidating messages, threatening her family and Cape Town’s executive mayor.
Hawks head Godfrey Lebeya noted that Masango is currently facing charges of contravening the Cyber Crimes Act but may face additional charges, including intimidation and assault. Lebeya also stated that the suspect allegedly made similar threats to business officials in other countries and an unnamed president.
