(The Post News)- On Wednesday night, Chelsea defeated Real Betis 4-1 in the UEFA Conference League final at the Stadion Miejski in Wroclaw, capping an incredible European journey.
The Blues, who had only suffered one loss en route to the championship game a shock loss to Legia Warszawa in the quarterfinals were the clear favourites to win the trophy after securing a return to the Champions League with a fourth-place Premier League result.
Chelsea came back to win a thrilling encounter Tuesday after Real Betis took the lead early in a tense final in Wroclaw. This victory marks Chelsea’s first trophy since their 2021–2022 campaign victories in the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup. Now that they are back on track, the west London club will aim to build on this momentum as they face the challenges of the forthcoming season.
A little-known prior to the season, Marc Guiu became the team’s leading scorer in the competition, scoring six vital goals to enable the Blues advance to the championship game. Considering that he only made three Premier League appearances this past season, his ability to score goals has been crucial to winning the championship.
A mainstay in Enzo Maresca’s lineup, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was essential on defence and in terms of creativity. The 26-year-old, who provided stability and balance throughout the season, made the most starts for Chelsea in the Conference League, second only to custodian Jorgensen.
Despite making 27 appearances in the Premier League with little fanfare, Christopher Nkunku proved his worth in Europe. His three assists and seven goals demonstrated his value to the team’s Conference League success, where his flare and decisiveness were crucial on the European scene.
For the upcoming season, Enzo Maresca and his team will focus on being ready for the demands of playing in the Champions League. Chelsea will have to reorganise and make sure they are prepared to play at the greatest level in order to restore the domination the London club has long enjoyed in both the domestic and European arenas.
