(The Post News)– Paul Doyle, a 53-year-old former Royal Marine commando from West Derby, Liverpool, has been charged with seven offenses.
He was detained during Liverpool FC’s Premier League victory parade for crashing into fans—causing 79 injuries—on Monday, May 26. His charges include dangerous driving and multiple counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. Police have, however, ruled out terrorism as a motive, and an investigation is ongoing.

The tragic incident occurred on Water Street in Liverpool’s city centre, where about one million fans gathered to celebrate Liverpool’s 2024–25 title victory. Shortly after the team’s open-top bus passed, a grey Ford Galaxy drove into the crowd, striking numerous individuals and trapping four people, including a child, under the vehicle.
Bystanders attempted to stop the car, which initially halted but then lurched forward again before coming to a standstill. Emergency services responded swiftly, with 27 people hospitalised, including four children, and two in serious condition. The remaining 52 individuals were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
The incident has deeply affected the Liverpool community and prompted a thorough police inquiry to ensure justice for all victims. Authorities are analysing extensive video footage and eyewitness accounts as part of their investigation.
