(The Post News)– In a defining moment for women’s cricket in South Africa, Cricket South Africa (CSA) hosted its first Women in Cricket Dialogue on Friday at Melrose Arch.
Structured around three panel discussions and keynote talks, the day centred on lived experiences and forward-thinking strategies. The opening panel, The Evolution of Women’s Cricket, featured voices like ICC’s Snehal Pradhan, former Proteas captain Linda Olivier, and Nolubabalo Ndzundzu, the first Black African woman to represent South Africa, who shared powerful stories of navigating the sport during less inclusive eras.
The second panel, Marketing, Commercialisation & Sponsorship, highlighted the commercial growth of women’s cricket. Nielsen Sports’ Nwabisa Sauls presented promising data on audience engagement, while Suzuki SA’s Megan MacDonald emphasised the impact of meaningful brand partnerships.
The final panel, The Future of Women’s Cricket, focused on sustainability and development. CSA’s Edward Khoza and Grant van Velden outlined plans for talent retention and grassroots-to-elite alignment. Proteas captain Laura Wolvaardt and SA U19’s Kayla Reyneke spoke about the value of professional contracts, mental wellness support, and competitive opportunities.
CSA’s Refentse Shinners described the event as a turning point, one that sets a clear vision where every girl, regardless of background, sees herself in the game and has the support to thrive.
